Certificate IV in Interior Decoration is now more accessible than ever with three delivery modes
We want you to undertake this course in a way that suits your learning style and location, so we’re now taking Expressions of Interest for three different modes of delivery:
- in the classroom
- hybrid – one in-person class a month + online
You may be eligible for subsidised study
We’re in the unique position of working with the Victorian and New South Wales Government training departments to provide subsidised funding to eligible students, where possible. This accredited qualification is delivered through Design School, as part of RTO 91454 MP Training and Recruitment.
We are currently taking Expressions of Interest to determine what delivery mode suits you. The delivery modes are summarised below, and the information collected will allow us to gauge numbers and assess your eligibility to receive government-subsidised training.

This course is for those who love, and want to create a career in design. It complements industries like real estate, retail, photography - and the list goes on! It’s also fantastic for home renovators who want to make the most of their most significant investment!

How you'll learn
This qualification will give you a range of specialised practical and technical skills and knowledge. You’ll be able to provide advice and practical assistance on the finishing and furnishing of existing interior spaces.
Career outcomes may include retail, consulting and construction as interior decorators or colour consultants.

Melbourne & Newcastle
Join your instructors and fellow students in the classroom in either Melbourne or Newcastle (just one and a half hours from Sydney).
The course is delivered once per week from 9:30am to 3pm. Course duration is generally 11 to 13 months.
Classroom students will also have full access to our brand new online course content.

The course is delivered with a monthly Saturday classroom session, alongside online delivery. Classes will be held in Melbourne, and in Newcastle (one and a half hours from Sydney)
Hybrid students will have full access to our brand new online course content.
Course duration is generally 11 to 13 months.

The course is delivered entirely online, with no requirements to attend the classroom sessions.
Our brand new online course is designed to keep you engaged, with exciting video content, weekly tutorials and an innovative approach to assessment that breaks down your course requirements into understandable and achievable segments!
Course duration is generally 11 to 13 months.
- Mid- year 2021
*A decision on Classroom/Hybrid modes of delivery will be made in relation to interest received. Both modes may be delivered if there is enough interest.
In order to undertake the Certificate IV in Interior Decoration (MSF40118), you will need to meet the following minimum requirements:
- Have completed Year 10 level or equivalent
- Have access to a laptop for classes (whether weekly or monthly), or a computer for online delivery.
- Have intermediate to advanced understanding of computer skills, in particular where the mode of delivery is Hybrid or Online. Computer skills will be tested prior to course entry.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy will be tested prior to course entry

Larissa Vendramini, Trainer & Assessor
Larissa has a strong background working collaboratively with the broader design community. Larissa has established her own small business, Curatorial Kin, focusing on design services and creative content development, merging her love of all things design in both space and print.
With a passion for soft furnishings and experience with fabrics and furniture, her maximalist style has been complementary to various creative projects, from designing bespoke furnishings to lending a styling hand for Spring Racing marquees during the Melbourne Cup Carnival!
Larissa is a bubbly and approachable mentor with an abundance of knowledge of all things art and design.

Tim Neve, Trainer & Assessor
Tim is a well-known stylist in the Australian interior design industry. From editorial shoots to decorated interiors, his work has been published and profiled in print and online, from Architectural Digest internationally to Adore Magazine locally. He is the author of a 272-page hardcover book (Sandcastles, Murdoch Books) which received warm reviews worldwide.
Tim is also a textile designer, his prints have been produced into linen homewares stocked around Australia by leading design retailers including Jumbled, The Block Shop and Oz Design furniture. Tim loves teaching, especially the Certificate IV Interior Decoration, where we get hands-on with styling, fabrics and materials boards. For the past five years, he has taught for some of Australia’s top design institutions - but is most thrilled to join the Design School team!

Melissa Chatfield, Trainer & Assessor
Mel has always loved the world of interiors and has been involved in building and renovating homes for over a decade. Her interest sparked when renovating her own home. Deciding to go to school and learn the essentials of Interior Decoration led Mel to be part of one of our first classes at Design School!
Since completing her studies with us, Mel has gone on to start her own successful business – Charchi – and she has also written articles for Dulux (Domain Home Magazine) and the Plyroom Journal – she is very passionate about sharing her knowledge!
