 The Alumni Evolution

Over the years, we’ve watched graduates like Alessandra Smith build practices that are not only visually compelling, but commercially structured and sustainable.

This immersion marks a natural evolution and chapter for Design School Studio.

This is not a return to classroom theory, it's an invitation inside a real studio's workflow.

From concept-led colour direction through to curated sourcing and procurement, you’ll see how creative decisions are translated into professional practice.

Because beautiful work deserves considered structure.

 The Tension

You understand the foundations.

You can build a concept.

But when faced with a smaller space, a tighter brief, or a defined budget, knowing how to refine, prioritise and bring everything together can feel less certain.

How do you create and curate impact without excess? Where should attention be focused?

How do colour, materiality and sourcing decisions shape the way a space is experienced?

This immersion is designed to bring this all into focus.

The Host

Alessandra Smith

Her journey from Design School graduate to studio founder is the inspiration behind this Alumni Masterclass series.

Alessandra Smith is a published and award-nominated interior decorator, and founder of her studio Alessandra Smith Design.

Working across residential interiors, styling and editorial projects, her work is recognised for its refined approach to colour direction, material curation and layered interior schemes.

Her projects have been featured in Home Beautiful, The Design Files, Livingetc, Habitus Living and many more, reflecting a practice that balances aesthetic sensitivity with commercially considered sourcing and procurement.

In this immersion, Alessandra will share her workflow that she uses within her studio, from early colour direction through to sourcing, specification and procurement and ways she has overcome constraints through creativity and solutions.

The Experience

Across the day, you’ll move through Alessandra’s working process — observing how projects are shaped through a series of considered decisions.

The day begins at Studio BASE, where colour story telling, craftsmanship and materiality is explored in context, not as theory, but as a foundational layer within a project. We will engage with director as well a tour of the award winning design studio Furnishd.

From there, you’ll follow a curated path through Fitzroy of key suppliers and showrooms, gaining insight into how designers sourceprocure and develop relationships within the industry.

We will create space for open, informal conversation, an opportunity to ask questions, discuss process, and better understand how projects are managed behind the scenes.

The experience concludes with a private walkthrough of Alessandra's recently completed project, 'Snug Club', where earlier decisions are seen fully realised within a finished space.

 The Outcome

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how to approach smaller-scale projects and defined briefs with confidence, making thoughtful decisions around colour, sourcing and procurement to create spaces that feel resolved, intentional and complete.

Because impactful design isn’t driven by scale or restraints, it’s defined by how a space is considered and curated.
