The MSF40122 Certificate IV in Interior Decoration is a structured, industry-recognised qualification designed for those wanting to develop practical skills, creative confidence and a strong foundation in interiors.
Throughout the course, students explore the key elements of interior decoration — including design history, colour, lighting, materials, furniture, soft furnishings, drawing, visual merchandising, styling and client presentations.
Delivered through flexible online learning, weekly live Zoom classes and hands-on project work, the course is designed to support students as they build their design eye, develop their own aesthetic and gain confidence communicating creative ideas.

You’ll explore the foundations of interior decoration through a range of creative and practical subjects, including design history, colour, lighting, soft furnishings, furniture, materials and finishes, visual merchandising, styling, concept development, client briefs, floorplans, elevations and 3D drawing.
You’ll also complete practical design projects that help you build confidence, develop your design eye and create professional-looking concept presentations.
 The Online delivery of our Certificate IV course is considered full time study with weekly workload outside of class estimated at 10-12 hours. Students will have 2 hour live online classes each week with the balance of their work completed in their own time. Course duration is approximately 13 months.

No previous interior decoration experience is required. The course is suitable for beginners as well as creatives wanting to formalise or expand their existing skills. Our Fundamentals Masterclass is available as an optional introduction for those who would like to build confidence before commencing.
The course is delivered online through a combination of weekly live Zoom classes, self-paced learning resources, practical activities and project-based assessments.
You’ll also have access to an online learning portal where you can view course content, resources, recordings and assessment information.
Yes. This is a nationally recognised qualification delivered by Design School Studio in partnership with TECTRA Australia RTO 40889.
Yes, but there are no formal exams. Assessments are practical and project-based, including mood boards, materials boards, floor plans, elevations, written responses and client-style presentations.
You’ll be supported through live classes, trainer guidance, feedback on your work, course resources and access to the online learning portal.
This qualification can support pathways into areas such as interior decoration, styling, home staging, visual merchandising, retail styling, design support roles, showroom consulting or freelance creative work.
